About Me

I am a Chartered, Senior Psychologist practicing in the Republic of Ireland, with previous experience working in the United Kingdom. I hold a Doctorate in Psychology through Glasgow Caledonian University, and hold chartered membership with the Psychological Society of Ireland

I have acquired a wide range of experience working in the public sector, with voluntary organisations, and in private healthcare services. This has allowed me to gain experience with people across the lifespan, presenting with a variety of psychological needs, at different levels of severity. I also have experience working in specialist services.

EMDR is “a unique, powerful therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly”.

I offer cognitive assessments that can be used to inform educational needs, for example; and offer insight into ones intellectual ability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will I attend therapy for?

A: The answer to this question is dependent on many factors, such as; what you’re hoping to achieve, the frequency that you can attend sessions, your own readiness to change, and your capacity to engage meaningfully in therapy. Although this answer may seem frustrating as it’s vague, it really depends on each individual person!

Q: Do I have to do anything?

A: Yes, in short you do. You actually have to do a lot! You’re the expert on your lived experiences, whereas I have the training and skills to try to help you. Both parts are needed, and clients must also feel that now is the right time for them to attend therapy. You must have some capacity to engage with therapy, or be open to exploring as much as feels comfortable - or else little progress will be made.

Starting therapy is like planning permission - the therapist must have planning permission from the client to do certain clinical work or ‘renovations’

Q: What will my first session be like?

A: Unless you’ve attended therapy before, this will probably be a whole new experience for you. It will be an opportunity for you to start to discuss an overview of your difficulties, and what you think would be most helpful. It will also allow you to meet with me and figure out if you would like to come back for another session.

Approaching the first session with openness and honesty with both me and yourself can be great place to start. Even if you decide not to return or if I’m not the right psychologist for you, it can be a big, brave first step trying find help.
